The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus features Schmeeckle Reserve (SHMEE-klee), a 280-acre area providing a memorable natural escape. The reserve is one of three field stations in the College of Natural Resources.
Open to the public, this destination is maintained by the university to protect and restore native ecological communities of Central Wisconsin. Schmeeckle Reserve is an ideal place for hiking, jogging, biking, canoeing, fishing, wildlife watching, and just relaxing. With more than five miles of trails and boardwalks, a pristine 24-acre lake, a diversity of wildlife species, and a full-service visitor center and gift shop, the reserve has something for everyone. The reserve is also headquarters of the Green Circle, a 26-mile hiking and biking trail that loops through Stevens Point.
