Excellence is a tradition in Pointers athletics. Take a stroll through Quandt Fieldhouse and Berg Gymnasium to see the many conference and NCAA national championship trophies and banners accumulated during our storied history. Many Pointers made it to the top of their games, including Terry Porter in the National Basketball Association, Clint Kriewaldt in the National Football League and Jordan Zimmermann in Major League Baseball.
We think what our student-athletes do off the courts, ice and fi elds means the most in preparing them as leaders in life. UW-Stevens Point is the proud recipient of the top national award for public service among all of NCAA Division III—the largest college athletics division in America. The array of service our student-athletes provide is in keeping with the tradition of giving back that is so strong among all Pointers.
Student-athletes logged more than 1,000 hours of service last year building houses, reading to school kids, raising close to $50,000 through community games for charities, and more. Universitywide nearly 2,000 students volunteer approximately 7,000 hours a semester. Measured in dollars, it is worth nearly $150,000. Measured in lives transformed, it is priceless.
