UW-Stevens Point’s Schmeeckle (SHMEE-klee) Reserve is a 280-acre natural area maintained by the university to protect and restore native ecological communities of Central Wisconsin. It is an ideal place for hiking, jogging, biking, canoeing, fishing, wildlife watching and relaxing. The reserve has five miles of trails and boardwalks, a 25-acre lake, diversity of wildlife and visitor center with a gift shop.
Schmeeckle Reserve is one of five field stations operated by UW-Stevens Point across Wisconsin. Others include the Aquaponics Innovation Center in Montello, Central Wisconsin Environmental Station in Amherst Junction, Northern Aquaculture Demonstration Facility in Bayfield and Treehaven in Tomahawk.
